Chapter 15 - This is me.

Janelle’s P.O.V. Did I really kiss him?! Leaning my back against the door, I place the tip of my finger on my lips. The “woop” I hear through the door tells me I really did. “Had a fun night?” My mother asks, leaning again the doorframe of the kitchen. “Jesus, Mom!!!” I say, jumping away from the door. “You scared me half to death!” “I didn’t mean to. Was that Bexley yelling outside?” She asks, with a knowing smirk. “Hummm, yes, it was,” I shyly answer. “Come sit with me for a minute,” She asks, leading the way to the living room. Sitting down next to each other, she leans in, placing a hand on my cheek. “He seems like a good kid,” “He is,” “I know your uncle speaks very highly of him, but please, be careful, OK?” “I know, Mom. I’m not rushing into anything right away.” “Are you telling me there is something starting?” She asks, arching a brow. “Maybe. I’m not sure.” “Ok. Is that why he was whooping outside?” “Well, that’s…I mean… Probably.” This is so embarrassing! I bet my cheeks are as red as a tomato! She is silent for a moment, then take my hands in hers. “I know you're older, and I know you’ve made a lot of progress since last year. I’m just a bit worried.” “I know Mom. Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something.” “OK, What is it?” She asks, straightening up. “Do you think we could arrange an online session with Dr.? Or find a new one around here?” “I’ll make a call in the morning. Is there something going on? Did something happen?” She asks nervously. “No, nothing in particular. I just think I need it. Since I started skating again, a lot of things and memories have been coming back, and I think it might be good for me to talk to someone about it.” I hold my hand up before she could say anything. “I know you’re going to say I can talk to you about anything, and I know that. But, I would prefer to talk to my doctor about it, if that's OK.” I fidget with my fingers nervously, waiting for her reply. She exhales deeply before answering. “Of course it’s OK.” I’ll make the necessary arrangements.” “Thanks, Mom.” “Now, tell me all about what just happened outside! Where did you guys go after leaving the ice rink?” “MOM!!! No way am I talking to you about this!” I stand up and start walking away. Almost running towards the steps to go and hide, or die of embarrassment in my bedroom. “Oh come on. We could be those kinds of mother-daughter duo,” She pipes up, clearly enjoying my awkwardness at her question. “Seriously, Mom, no!” I whined, running up the steps. I can hear her giggle as I close my door. I love my mom. And I know I can count on her, but did she really have to be… a mom right now? I take out my comfy pajamas and change. I brush my hair and settle in my bed with my phone. Flipping through my many apps, a text comes in. Oli - How does not having a cast feel? Me - It feels AWSOME!!! What's with his weird response? Me - Yeah, I was with him. Is that a problem? Oli - No, it’s.. Not. I just .. didn’t know. Me - What do you mean? Oli - It’s nothing. Forget what I just said. I’m glad it went well. Oli - Your skating, I mean. Me - Oli, What happened between the both of you? From what I gathered on my first day, you were the best of friends. Oli - Don’t worry about it. Oli - I g2g. Talk to you tomorrow. night.Xx Me - Oli, you know you can tell me what happened, right? I don’t know if I can be of any help, but I can listen. Me - Oli??? Me - You there? Me - Fine… Alright. Gnight. I really don’t understand what’s going on with them two, or what really happened that day to make them hate each other so much, but one of these days, one of them will cave and tell me! Plugging in my phone, I shut off my desk lamp and settle in. Today was a good day. I wonder what Bex will do when he sees me tomorrow? Maybe I should dress up? Or put on some makeup? Maybe do my hair differently? No. Bex would notice that I did something different. But maybe I should? NO. No no no! I am perfect the way I am! I don’t need to change anything for anyone. Not this time! Not ever again! If he can’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve me! Right?
