Delilah
Being in the same room with wolves clothed in sheep lining is actually nauseating. Juliana being pregnant for Jake I guess reminds me of the baby I lost, the baby that I wasn't given any chance to hold. Lucas squeezed my hand from under the table, reminding me that I have my family with me.
Juliana as expected stood up and started the presentation; she talked about things that I don't really want to hear. After her whole speech, she brought out the contract for my father to sign but my father told her to pass the contract to me. "She will be representing me in this company for this contract so anything that involves this contract should be forwarded to her" my father stood up and told me to come stand beside him which I did.
"This is my daughter Delilah Davidson and she will be representing me"
Staring at a pregnant Juliana, although her baby bump wasnt so visible, but it can be seen at first glance. They all stood up to acknowledge me as I am the one who will be representing my father now.
Juliana was the first to approach me probably because she is now the CEO. She approached with face filled with that smile that I have grown to hate. Hello Miss Davidson, its a pleasure to work with you
Jake scrunched his face up in blatant disapproval as he stood up to oppose "with all due respect Mr. Davidson, we can't work with someone whom we aren't even sure of her business capacity. If at all you want to delegate your position in this company, we think the best candidate is your son"
My father tried to respond to Jake's disapproval but I stopped him. I gat this one... You are stuck with me motherfucker. "Mr. Jake, you talk about my business capacity as if they aren't good enough?"
"We can't approve of something we aren't sure of Miss Davidson" he hissed
I gave him a tight smile "let me tell you something that am sure of Mr. Jake, since you emerged as the vice president of this firm, this company has not made up to twenty five percent profit. I guess that speaks on your business capacity Mr. Jake don't you think so?"
He turned red in anger "I'll take that as an ins__"
I cut him off mid sentence with a smirk on my face because am pretty sure the shareholders are having enough fun "you see Mr. Jake; my family is a very busy one with enough business appointments on our hands. So you should be grateful that someone from the Davidson's is willing to help save this sinking ship of a company. So if you are going to question our business capacity, we'll have to take our business somewhere else"
Juliana sprang to her feet "please pardon him Miss Davidson; he can be thoughtless most time. We will be happy to have you in our company. Since you are the one handling it, the contract will be sent to you for review"
Juliana... Always the smart one "that won't be necessary as I have already reviewed the one you sent to my dad"
She smiled at me "okay...That's great since you've already reviewed it, let's begin with the signing, I know working with you will bring us great pleasure"
Staring at the same hand that killed Clara, I plastered a fake smile on my face the pleasure is all mine Mrs. Juliana, but don't be in a hurry, I made few changes in the contract, few changes that you'll like to review"
Her cheeks turned crimson red with embarrassment. I know fully well that she is not married but I cant pass a chance to embarrass her.
She let out a small cough its actually Miss Juliana and what changes did you make?"
I squeezed my face in fake apology "am so sorry for the misunderstanding, with the pregnancy, I assumed that you are married. Am so sorry. Some of the changes that I made in the contract are
1. Am always in charge of this project, so before any action is carried out, I will have to approve of it.
2. I refuse to work with lazy staffs. Any staff that is not forth coming with positive ideas will be removed from the team in charge of the project. No matter his or her position
3. My company gets 45 percent instead of 30 percent.
That's all... If you agree with it, then we will sign the contract here and now"
Juliana looked around the table with uncertainty written all over her face but before she could utter any word, Jake spoke up for her
"This is bullshit...45 percent? Why should we offer you 45 percent? And what's this about you being in charge of all actions?" He turned to Juliana "you aren't seriously considering accepting this are you?"
Damn I really need a cup of water to shuffle down the laughter that is brewing inside of me but I can't drink this water before me. I don't trust anything that comes from the Grey's. "You see Jake 45 percent is me simply being considerate and for me being in charge of all actions and transactions during the period of this project is quite understandable. Building a car that drives on its own is a very big contract, a contract that requires a lot of money, the money that is coming from the Davidson's account. You don't expect me to sit back and watch you people make decisions that might be a risk to the project?" I turned to Juliana lets drop the decision before the shareholders" having the attention of the shareholders, I asked how many of them are in support of me and more than half of them raised their hands. I turned backed to Juliana "there you have it, the contract is approved"
She collected the contract from me and signed it and I did the same while smiling at a glaring Jack.
We sealed the contract with a handshake before we left the room. They should better me ready for me because this is the beginning of their down fall. Playing them will be fun as I know both their weaknesses. Jake my ex finance loves money and women while my beloved step sister loves power and respect. As for Juliana's mother, she loves her daughter being in control so once her daughter begins to lose control, she will step into the battle field.
"You did very well in there"
I blinked rapidly while trying to understand what Lucas is saying huh?"
"I said you did well in there. The look on Lucas face when you called him out on his bad business capacity really made my day"
I shrugged, trying not to get affected with the whole situation "am surprised that both of them got together and that Juliana even employed him. She saw me most times in the past trying to clean up Jake's mess"
Lucas brought his phone and started typing away "on Jake's file, you are the one who employed him. Guess he never left the company after your death"
No matter how Lucas tried to explain it, the puzzle doesn't just fit "that's the point, why will Juliana allow him to continue working there even when he knows all her dirty secret"
"Maybe she fell in love" Lucas chimed in
I spared him a glance "falling in love with someone who has the power to bring you down? I highly doubt that"
"So what other explanation do you have?"
"I don't have any explanation to this situation but I'll find out. I don't think Juliana and Jake are really romantically involved and Jake is not even qualified for that position"
"No offense Delilah, but you once deemed him qualified and you even offered him a job"
Uggh I feel like a fool for when making that decision. I wonder if he really lost his job... Did he even have any job at all? "Trust me Lucas I regret every decision I made regarding those people but that's not the point. The point is that I employed him then because I thought I loved him and he loved me too. I guess I was blinded by love"
He finally pocketed his phone and focused his attention on me "maybe Juliana is also madly in love that she's willing to over look the fact that Jake is not qualified and the fact that he knows her deepest secret. A secret need I remind you that he cannot use against her because if she goes down, he's going down with her"
"Juliana isn't in love with Jake because if she is, she wouldn't address him the way she did in there"
Lucas ran his hand over his head "whatever Juliana said in there isn't personal, it is strictly business. If I didn't know any better, I'll say you are jealous that they are together" he spat
I paused in shock. If I didn't take anger management class while I was away, I would have slapped Lucas hard for insinuating that I am jealous of the two people who turned my life upside down. He most have realized how stupid he sounded and how angry I am because he started apologizing immediately.
He tried to hold my hand but I slapped his hand away "am sorry Del I didn't mean to say that, I was just frustrated with the fact that you keep trying to find something where there is nothing. Am really sorry"
"It's okay; most times we say things that we don't mean"
He tried to talk about it again but I stopped him "let's not talk about them again for today, I can feel my margarine coming up"
He nodded reluctantly, then brought out his phone and continued typing away. The rest of the ride remained silent, as our driver quietly trailed after the car conveying our father. Immediately we got home, father and Lucas changed their clothing then went back to the office. I promised to be with them in few hours after my margarine is over.
Unfortunately, I didn't join them at the office because the headache only increased. I took the necessary pills and decided to sleep it off.
I woke up from my deep sleep due to the persistent knock on my door so I grudgingly opened it to see Lucas standing at the doorway, still in his suit from earlier.
"You missed work today, why?"
I left the door open with Luca still standing outside and slumped on my bed. "I had a persistent headache"
"Did you really have a headache or were you trying to avoid me due to the fight we had earlier?"
"Jeez!!! Lucas, really? You think I'll miss work because you decided to be an asshole?"
He shrugged "I don't know, you tell me"
"I already told you, I had a headache so I couldn't come"
He walked into my room "well you'll have to convince dad because he thinks you are upset about Juliana and Jake"
What!!! "Why would he think that?"
"Because you missed work after seeing them"
Uggghhh "so what did you tell him?"
He raised his brows "what did I tell him on what?"
Is he serious right now? "On the fact that he thinks am upset about Juliana and Jake... Remember I told you about the margarine on our way home"
He sat down on my bed "I didn't tell him anything. Mean while, I didn't know the margarine was this serious"
"So technically he wants to speak with me?"
He shook his head "nope, he didn't send me to call you, but I know he's going to raise it up during dinner. So let's just say am giving you a heads up"
I gave him a small push on the back "get out of my room, I need to take my bath and get ready for dinner and questioning"
Instead of leaving, he relaxed the more "I had a really busy day today. Allowing me few minutes rest in your room won't kill you Del"
I scrunched my face "I can't bath with inside my room Lucas"
He snorted "you are my sister Del, is not like anything is going to happen"
I let out a small cough "am not really you Sister Lucas and am not comfortable with you being in my room while am taking my bath"
He stared at me for few minutes then raised his hands up in mock surrender "fine am leaving"
I stood there and watched him leave; closing my door behind him I let out a loud sign. Guess I just made everything awkward. He sees me like his little sister and I literally just told him that I see him as a full bloodied male. Uggghhh... Delilah you're such a fool. I stomped into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me in anger, an anger directed towards my stupid self. Now I have an inquisitive father and a probably annoyed brother to face at dinner. Can today get any worse?
I took my time to shower, trying to prolong the unavoidable but when the maid came to call me again, I know instantly that's my final warning from my father to get myself downstairs for dinner.
I walk into the dining room hesitantly as I take a seat directly opposite to that of Lucas. My father eyed me skeptically before saying the grace. Immediately we chorused amen, my father fired his question
"Why weren't you at the office today?"
"I had a persistent headache"
He looked at me, as if contemplating if he should believe me or not "a headache that no drug could calm?"
"I took some drugs, guess it didn't help"
Lucas dropped his fork noisily "then go see a doctor. If a headache persists, you are expected to go see a doctor"
"Yes he's right, you should see a doctor. I'll book an appointment with Doctor Phillips" my father chimed in
Uggghhh don't they know how I dislike hospitals, for my mother it meant death, for my baby it meant death and for me, a life full of anger and vengeance. I want to avoid that place at all cost. "Am fine, I don't need to see any doctor, am fine now, calling a doctor to book an appointment is not necessary"
"I know how much you hate hospitals Del, but we are humans so we need to get checked from time to time" Lucas said softly "I'll go with you if it makes you feel any better"
"Am fine Lucas, I don't need a doctor. So I'll appreciate it if we stop talking about it"
Lucas glared at me while my father took a sip from his wine glass which surprisingly contains water instead of wine. I guess that's his own way of letting the world know that he follows nobody's rules. If the say wine glasses should be only used for wine, my father will definitely use it for water even in the presence of other people.
"What's your next move on the Grey's?" He asked me as if sensing that I've been staring at him
"I'm thinking of planting a mole, I think there is more going on than what they are letting on"
"What made you say so?"
I told him the same thing that I told Lucas in the car and he seems to agree with me
"I know who to plant in for you, just leave that to me"
I smiled at him. That's one thing about Mr. Peter Davidson; he has a way of doing anything and am sure he's definitely going to plant a mole as promised.
