chapter 5

Camilla I couldn't keep my mind away from that party. I like being around Damon, but being around other rich folks isn't a very good idea to me. "You still think I should go Cain?" He paused with his spoon of chocolate ice cream half way to his month "I don't think you should go, I am putting it to you that you will go even if I have to drag you all the way to the party myself" I snatched the cup of ice cream from him "you know how those people can be, I don't think I can last the whole night there... With them" "Damon is rich, but I don't see you judging him" he snorted Well that's true in some way, I have never thought about Damon to be like them, he's just kind of different to me. "Don't worry too much Cammy, your man is going to be there with you so nothing is going to go wrong" "My man? Aren't we a little bit too forward?" "I don't know about you Cammy, but that man considers you his" The door opened and a customer walked in so I sent Cain to his own quarter. The handsome young man approached me with a smile present on his lips "Hi, please am looking for a good romance book. Can you recommend anyone for me?" I opened my bag and searched for my list book. "I know quite a lot and the are all my favorites, so if am going recommend, I'll have to recommend all of them" still searching for the book in my bag, I began to grow a little frustrated but I kept searching. "But I can list a few for you, if you think the are great, you can come back for more" He noticed my agitation "did you lose something?" I removed my hand from the damn bag which seem to have swallowed my precious book. "Well I kind of wrote down all the names of the books I've read so far. But I can't seem to find it right now" "Well you at least have a few in your head, I'll manage those ones" I walked out of my corner and pointed towards the shelves "come, I'll show you a few" "I'm Rex" he interjected while stretching out his hand for a handshake I cleaned the crease of my palm on my skirt "Camilla... Nice to meet you. If you'll come along, I'll show you the books" He walked quietly behind me until we got to shelve that contained all romance novels. I picked up one of the books in the shelves. "I recommend Gabriel's inferno, it's a nice romance novel" I rubbed my palm on the book cover before handing it over to him. He collected the book and opened the first few pages "I'll need more than one" I carefully picked more books from the shelve "you into romance novels? Or are the for someone" He smiled as he collected the first five books from me "picking them for someone? Is it too hard to believe that a guy is into romance novels?" I grinned "well... No offense, but it's kind of difficult to believe that a suit guy like you, is into romance. Please don't tell my boss I said that" He leaned closer to me "don't worry, I don't kiss and tell" We ended up picking ten romance novels which he paid for at the counter, just as I was packaging the books, he chose the moment to start small talks. "How about I take you out for coffee as a sign of appreciation for the stress?" I laughed inwardly, what's up with guys offering me coffee? "I don't think that's necessary..." "Rex, the name is Rex. I'm quite offended that you didn't remember my name" "Apologizes Mr Rex, but I don't think coffee is necessary. I was just doing my job" He rubbed his palm together "okay, I guess that didn't work like I planned so I'll take another route. But about I take you out for dinner?" "Mr Rex__" He interrupted me "please it's Rex, just Rex" "Okay Rex, I don't think dinner is necessary, like I said I was just doing my job. That is why I get paid at the end of the month" "Am not asking you out because of the help you rendered, am asking you out for dinner because I saw a beautiful lady that I like and would like to know better. So what do you think?" I am yet to define my relationship with Damon, but I don't think I'll be happy to see him having a dinner date with someone else. "I still don't think it's a very good idea Rex. Am actually seeing someone, and I don't think it's fair to go on a date with another" He took my hand and stared at my fingers. "I don't see a wedding ring which means you are still very much available for me to try my luck. We never know what happens you know" "Am still not having dinner with you" He raised his hands in mock surrender "it's okay, guess I'll see you around Camilla" I waved him goodbye as he left the library. As if on cue, my phone rang and the name Damon appeared on my screen so I picked it up. "Hello cariño, how is your day going?" "Am fine Damon and yours?" "Same busy day. Hey I want to take you out for dinner today" "O..k.a..y.." I dragged, Rex and Damon seem to have a similarities in some ways He cleared his throat "well I kind of want to cook for you at my place" he immediately backed the plan up with an alternative plan "but if you aren't comfortable at my place, then I can cook at yours" My cheeks warmed up at his attempt to be considerate. "Your place is fine Damon. But are you sure you want to cook? I can do the cooking you know" "Nay...I want to cook for you, just look pretty for me. I'll send the driver to pick you up by 7 okay?" "Yeah 7 is okay and I can't wait to taste your food Damon" "Okay cariño, I'll see you then." The phone beeped which indicated that the call have been disconnected. Later that night, I dressed up really pretty just like Damon requested and exactly at seven, the door bell rang. I picked up my purse and keys as I left the house. The ride to Damon's house was a smooth one, with the music playing and the air conditioner doing it's work, the car ride seemed so short even though it wasn't. We arrived in no time and I was directed to the elevator by a guy in suit. The elevator rode straight up to what I believe to be the pent house. When I got out of the elevator, I also saw a man standing outside the door and he ushered me in. Immediately I stepped in, Damon appeared as if he knows am here, or I guess he does know. He kissed my forehead before placing a gentle kiss on my lips "you look beautiful cariño" I blushed like literally "thank you" "Why don't you sit down while I serve the food" I dropped my purse on the sofa "let me help you with that" He held my shoulder "you are the guest and I am the host. So take your pretty ass to that table and have a seat while I serve you okay?" I wasn't comfortable with doing nothing but I obeyed him. Few minutes later, we were both seated and having dinner while talking about random things like how we both are the only child, what we like and do not like, our favorite sports etc. When we finished eating, Damon suggested we watch a movie which I agreed to. We cuddled as we watched Grey's anatomy, a weird choice of movie for a romantic dinner night. Everything was going on fine until I received a text in my phone. I opened the text, very much aware that Damon is reading it with me behind me but since I have nothing to hide, I let him but I guess that was a mistake because the text read A good evening to you beautiful, am actually looking forward to seeing you again and I really hope you say yes this time. Rex I peered at Damon from under my lashes and as expected, he is furious "Who the f**k is Rex?"
