chapter 4

Unknown I am sinking deeper and deeper into the depth of darkness, I tried to reach out but I grabbed only but cold air. I know this was me going to meet my keeper but something kept me from going. I am afraid to come back for the fear of becoming betrayed again. I heard a distant sound of a baby and I tried to find it, but the more I did, the further it went away from me. Then I heard it, that distant voice, that voice that kept whispering that everything is going to be okay. I tried to respond, I tried to tell him that nothing is going to be okay, that I have lost everything. But I couldn't utter a word. I feel exhausted, I decided to take a little rest and I went back into the deep depth of darkness. I heard those whispers again but this time I heard them very clearly. It was a voice of a man and a woman in a light conservation. I paid attention very well in order to grasp what they were talking about. "I think she is remembering events of the past, which is the cause of the whimpering". "What if she is trying to regain consciousness doctor?" "it is a possibility that is why you have to keep a close eye on her and inform us if she wakes up". "Okay thank you doctor" Who are they talking about? Are they waiting for me to wake up? I blinked twice, trying to adjust to the brightness of the room and when I did, I saw an old man sitting on the only seat in the room. As if he felt my gaze, he turned to look at me and when he caught me staring at me, he stood up and approached me. "Hey how do you feel?" I tried to respond but my throat feels very dry. The old man passed me a cup of water as if he could feel that my throat is dry. "Am going to call the doctor". He pressed a button and some doctors walked into my room. "How are you feeling Miss?" I recognized the voice, she was the woman discussing with the old man earlier. "Am fine, just a little headache and my body feel sore". "For the headache I'll give you something that will help with that. And for the soreness, it is expected as you've been lying down for some time now". I don't know why I feel that sometime means a very long time. "How long have I been here?" "You've been here for over six months dear" Six months? So I've been suck on a hospital bed for over six months. I was interrupted from my thought by the woman's voice "We will run series of test on you, but for the mean time, we are going to introduce ourselves okay?" I mumbled an okay, obviously not in the mood to exchange pleasantries. "My name is Doctor Sylvia Phillips and I work here. What's your name?" "My name is Clara, Clara Grey". The doctors eye widened "where are you from Miss Grey?" I spared a glance at the old man "with the way your eye widened, I believe you know who I am and where am from". "Do you remember what happened Miss Grey?" "Please call me Clara and I can't remember entirely everything. All I can remember is ship and fire". She nodded and wrote down something on her book "you will remember everything in due time. For the fact that you remember your name, it simply means that your memory is still intact. Some nurses will be sent over to take you for the test". I decided not to give her any answer. I closed my eyes and willed myself to remember. I know I felt anger towards someone but I don't know who or why. Mrs. Sylvia left with the old man obviously to discuss something they don't want me to hear. I opened my eyes when the old man entered the room, I decided to get answers from him "what happened?" He stared at me with pity in his eyes "you should rest, don't stress yourself". Is it that this people don't understand? I need to understand how I got here "just answer me" He signed "I found you in a burning ship which was about to sink with bullet holes in your chest". Jesus Christ "bullet holes? Which means it was more than one?" He nodded "two, two bullet holes was found in your body". "Did you see the person who shot me?" "No I didn't. When I saw your ship, it was down way the sea, you were lucky that my son is a very good swimmer. He was the one who saved you. You should take some rest, we will talk more about it tomorrow". I closed my eyes and willed myself to sleep. The next morning, I woke up with my body drenched in sweat, I remember, I remember everything now, how Juliana, Jake and Katherine tried to kill me. The door opened and a young man walked in. I knew the instant I saw him that he is the son of the old man. I felt bad for not requesting for his name yesterday. "Good morning sunshine" "Good morning, where is your dad, I need to talk to him". He gave me a gentle smile "he should be here later in the day, he is in business meeting". I nodded, not wanting to drag the old man away from his business. "My name is Lucas Davidson by the way". I smiled at him "my name is Clara and I really owe you for saving my life" "I believe my dad told you that?" I nodded "he did and I am very grateful" He shrugged "its okay, anybody in my shoes would have done the same". Remembering how I was betrayed by my family "I doubt that, not everybody would have done that". He tilted his head "you sound as if you remember what happened?" "I remember everything that is why I want to speak to your father". "Fair enough" I need to use the restroom "can you call one of the nurses?, I need to use the restroom" He pressed that button again and a nurse entered, she helped me to the restroom but when I looked at myself in the mirror, a loud cry escaped my lips. Lucas knocked on the door and I told the nurse to let him in. "I believe you've seen your face" Lucas asked I stared at him, my face stained with tears "what happened?" He placed his hands on my shoulders "your face got burnt badly in the fire, so we had to give you a new one".
