We are two beers in when I hear my phone start going off. I jump up and grab it seeing message after message coming through. “I guess the towers are back up, I’m going to let my parents know I’m ok” I tell Jack and he nods I go in his room and call my mom. “Camry, oh thank god! Are you ok?!” My mom yells clearly in a panic. “I’m ok, I’m sorry I couldn’t get in touch with you earlier but the cell towers were down” I tell her “It’s ok honey as long as you are fine that’s all that matters” she says and I can hear the relief in her voice “My car ran off the road and someone stopped to help me. I’m staying at his cabin until the snow clears enough for him to get me to you guys” I tell her and she pauses no doubt only having heard the part where I’m at a cabin with a man. I think if he was going to murder me he would have done it by now. “You are staying with a man you don’t know?” She says disapprovingly and like I had any other choice? “I didn’t have much of a choice and he’s a very good guy you don’t have to worry” I try to reassure her “Ok.. well keep in touch with me please” it’s actually kind of nice to know she’s worried about me because we don’t have the greatest relationship. “I will I promise, love you” I tell her “Love you too honey” she says before hanging up Just as I’m about to walk back out Alex starts calling. Majority of the messages I had received were from him. Breaking things off with him didn’t exactly go smoothly and he’s not taking it so well. And by that I mean he’s just not accepting that I broke up with him. He’s the kind of guy that was spoiled growing up and has never been told no. “Hello” I answer already annoyed “ ‘Hello’, seriously after days of not hearing from you that’s all you have to say?!” He yells so loud I have to bring the phone away from my ear “First of all the cell towers were down, second of all I don’t have to say anything to you at all we are NOT together anymore” I yell back at him trying to as much emphasis on the word ‘not’ as I can. “Yeah you’ve made that pretty clear Camry, when you’re done with your little experimental phase you’ll come back” he says like the smug a**hole he is. “Experiment phase? F**k you Alex” I end the call because he has a way of always ruining my mood. I mean, who the f**k does he think he is?! This is one of the main reasons I broke up with him because he’s a jerk. I walk out into the living room and Jack is standing up. “Everything ok? I heard you yelling” I hate having ex drama it sounds so juvenile “I’m sorry about that. My ex thought I owed him an explanation about why I haven’t responded the past couple days and we had some words about it” I tell him honestly because I can’t think of anyone else I would be yelling at on the phone like that “Ah, not taking the break up well?” He asks “Not really, he told me once I’m done ‘experimenting I’ll go back to him” I scoff “Will you?” “Go back to him? Hell no, he’s an a**. We were together for 6 years and I didn’t even cry when we broke up so obviously there’s nothing there” I say I go to the fridge to get myself another beer. When I come back Jack is sitting on the couch so I sit on the opposite end. I drain some of my beer before talking again. “My mom wants me to be with Alex, she says nobody else will be able to put up with me” I’m not sure why I’m telling him all of this “Put up with you?” He asks turning his head towards me looking confused “Because I’m annoying” my mom always tells me my inability to shut up will be the reason I never have a husband. “You’re not annoying Camry, I’ve actually really enjoyed your company.” He stares at his beer shuffling in his seat slightly like he’s uncomfortable “I feel like I’ve definitely gotten on your nerves” I laugh because I have for sure been annoying him since I got here “I think your funny, not many people can make me laugh” I fully believe that His comment makes me smile and I’m not sure if it’s the alcohol or his words that are making me feel warm all of a sudden.
