Delilah
Date? The only person my brain nominated is Ken. Thank God I gave him a peace offering for the s**t Lucas pulled the last time.
Breaking into Jack's house and planting those listening devices without getting caught cost me a fortune. The men I sent made sure they made a lot of money from it. Coupled with the headache which seem to become more intense and the money I spent because of that jerk soiled my mood.
My phone rang and when I saw Doctor Phillips name on display, I knew that my results are out. I told her to call me instead of coming to the house. I don't want her announcing it to the whole family so I picked the call.
"Good evening doctor Phillips"
"Good evening Miss Davidson, your results are out and I'll prefer you see me in my office tomorrow"
"I don't have time for hospital trips doctor, just tell me what the result says"
"If you say so. The result here states that you have glioma, Astrocytoma grade 3"
What the hell does that even mean "can you explain doctor?"
I heard a door close in the background before she replied "it is a growth in the brain or spinal cord and in your case, it's a growth in the brain"
"So which drugs are you prescribing?"
"That is why I told you to come over to the office"
"I don't have that time doctor; can't you just prescribe something for the headache?"
"You see Delilah; this condition can be life threatening if not taken care of properly. Taking drugs for the headache only is not going to do you any good because as time goes on, other symptoms are going to come up and the tumor will keep growing thereby causing an invasion on the brain and the symptoms won't just be headaches Delilah"
I stood up from my bed and walked towards my window "what are the other symptoms?"
"Drowsiness, nausea, behavioral changes, memory loss, vision problem and the rest"
"How long is the treatment going to last?"
"I can't say precisely, because surgery isn't enough, it needs to be followed by radiation or chemotherapy"
I don't have such time to waste. "How long do I have before the other symptoms starts manifesting?"
"We need to run some tests and scan. Listen to me Delilah; I know what you are passing through. I was there remember but please don't put your life at risk because of them again"
"You don't know what am passing through doctor; don't insult me by telling me you do. I'll drop by tomorrow to pick up the prescription for the headache"
"Deli__"
"Have a lovely evening doctor"
Glioma? Where is that even coming from? The knock on my door made me snap my attention to it. I decided to ignore the knock until I heard Lucas's voice
"I know you are awake Del, I heard your voice"
Shit!!! Did he also hear my conversion with Doctor Phillips? I doubt that, because if he did he won't be knocking softly and gently
"What do you want Lucas?"
"I just want to talk Del"
And am definitely not in the mood for that "talk about what Lucas?"
I heard him sigh "are we really going to talk through closed doors Del? Have our relationship gotten to that?"
"Jeez Lucas... Is that emotional blackmail?"
"Call it anything you want, just let me in"
I sluggishly opened the door and told him to come in as I walked back to the bed. "I was about to get ready for bed, so whatever you want to say, I'll appreciate it if you make it quick"
"Drop the attitude Del, am not here to fight"
Jesus...I didn't even realize that I was being a b***h. Is one of the symptoms showing already?
"What is going on with you Del?"
"You mean aside from the fact that the people who ruined my life are out there walking around freely?"
He eyed me skeptically "isn't getting justice what we've been doing all these while?"
I took a deep breath "what do you want Lucas?"
"I just want you to talk to me Del... Damnit!!!"
What is there to talk about? Is it the fact that all bad things keep happening to me? That life keeps f*****g me up? I don't think that's something I want to discuss with anybody not even Lucas so I used my defense mechanism. "Am fine Lucas, there is nothing wrong with me. If you don't mind I'll like to sleep"
"Are you asking me out of your room?"
"Am telling you I need to sleep" I walked towards the bathroom shut the door on your way out" with that I closed the door. After few minutes of uttermost silence, the door to my room slammed shut and I fell down and wept for my soul.
