Delilah
I woke up the next morning and got ready for work. I went downstairs and met my family eating breakfast. The maid saw me and scurried off to get an extra plate but I stopped her. "Am not having breakfast this morning Luisa, don't bother with the plate"
Lucas looked up from his plate and opened his mouth probably to ask me why but he closed it and returned to his food. I rolled my eyes at his behavior and turned to leave but my father's voice stopped me.
"Sit down Delilah; you are having breakfast with us"
I opened my mouth to argue "but am not hungry dad"
He looked up from his plate stared at me "I don't care what you feel or what you don't feel. When I told you to sit, I wasn't requesting"
I stared at him in total disbelief before I sat down on the empty seat. Luisa brought the extra plate and dished the food.
I picked on the food as I silently watched Lucas focus on his food. My father broke the silence as usual
"You were captured entering and leaving a hospital, do you care to tell me what you were doing there Lucas?"
He dropped his spoon noisily "I am 28 not 15 father, wherever I chose to go to isn't any business of yours"
"It's my business if news are going around that you got some girl knocked up"
I choked on my water and Lucas glared at me
"If you are asking me if I got any lady pregnant father, the answer is no" he stood up from his chair. "If you'll excuse me, I'll like to get to work"
I watched his retreating back and I quietly stood up to leave
"Sit down Delilah, we have things to discuss"
I groaned heavily, not again
"What is going on with you and Lucas?"
Okay I didn't see that one coming "what do you mean father?"
"You know what I mean Delilah, are you having an affair with him? Are you both in a relationship?"
"Lucas and I are not in any relationship neither are we having an affair"
"I may be old but am not stupid; I have noticed the strain between the both of you. He was actually enjoying his meal then you entered and he left"
"I think he left because of your constant questioning"
He took a deep breath "you see Delilah, I care about you, but Lucas is my son, my flesh and blood so am worried about him. If his current aggression is because of you, I need you to put an end to it. I lost my wife and am not ready to lose my only child too"
His words actually pained me more than I care to admit. Lucas is his only child? I guess that's his own way of reminding me that it's always his son first. That am not actually family. And for the first time ever since I received the news of my sickness. I contemplated not treating it at all. What is the essence of living when you don't have anyone to live for? "I can assure you that whatever that is going on with Lucas isn't from me"
He seemed satisfied with my response as he drank from his cup.
"Is that all father?"
"How is things going with the Grey's?"
"The contract is going on well"
He smiled at me "am not talking about the contract. Personally, how is it going?"
Oh...I don't know the last time he asked me anything concerning that. "I am working towards bankrupting them"
He raised his brows "bankruptcy? That's a new one"
It's new to you because you've stopped bothering about it "it isn't a new one. The plan was to offer them a business contract, create enmity between them, make them breach the contract, make them pay the fine for breaching the contract, a fine that will render them bankrupt then the rest follows."
I stopped talking but he kept staring at me as if expecting me to say something. I began to feel uncomfortable under his gaze. "What?"
"Have you ever thought about letting go?"
"Letting go of what?"
"The pain, the revenge, everything. You know you can just have an actual life outside revenge"
"I live for this!!" I hissed at him "nothing, I repeat nothing is going to stop me from making them pay for what they did to me"
"To Clara"
I blinked in confusion "what?"
"What they did to Clara not you. You are Delilah and not Clara and when you start seeing it from this perspective, and then things will be easier for you." He stood up left the dining table.
