Lucas
Something is definitely wrong her, and the fact that I don't know what is wrong is eating me raw. I used to know everything that is going on in her life, but right now we are like two parallel lines.
"Mr. Lucas?"
I turned to the owner of the voice and I saw Juliana walking towards me, with a smile present on her lips. "I guess I saw right, what are you doing here?"
I smiled at her "am here for a business meeting, but my client is running late. And you, what are you doing here?"
She pointed at the building across the road "I visited the hospital for check up, so I decided to come in for lunch"
I stood up and pulled the empty seat out for her "please have a seat; I rather spend the afternoon with you than spending it with some up tight investors"
She gave me a throaty laughter "if you insist Lucas"
She sat down and I called the waitress over and she collected our order. "So how is business going Juliana?"
She shrugged "fine I guess"
I could sense the distrust in her voice. "Is everything okay Juliana?"
She wiggled her fingers together "am fine... Just ups and down in business"
I held her palm "you can talk to me, I can be of great help and you shouldn't be distressed in your condition. So come on talk to me"
"Are you working together with your sister in the auto mobile contract with us?"
I scrunched my face up "no am not, my father thinks his illegitimate daughter is the best person for the business and not his son, so I decided not to get involved. Why do you ask?"
Our order arrived and she started eating immediately while I picked on mine. I guess that's the appetite of a pregnant woman. She looked up and saw me staring.
"What?" She mumbled
I shook my head and smiled at her "I just wondering how a pregnant woman can be so beautiful?"
She blushed before returning to her food "when you talked about your sister few minutes ago, you sounded like you don't like her?"
"I don't hate her, I just hate the fact that my father thinks she's better than me and that keeps upsetting me every f*****g time. You know they actually said that I have anger issues"
She waved her fork at me in a no gesture I think they are wrong on that one"
I took a sip from the water before me "so I was asking you what was bothering you earlier?"
"Okay... Well, the money that we were supposed to bring for the automobile isn't available right now"
"What do you mean by that? I hope you know that this is a six months contract and any party that do not fulfill their own part of the deal or who delays production within six months is breaching the contract right?"
She released a deep breath "I know, that where the problem is. We were supposed to get a loan from the bank, a loan that the agreed to give to us. But I don't know what happened, all of a sudden, they refused to give us a loan and we have already signed the contract with your company. So if I don't get that money before next week, then am going to definitely delay production and you know what that means in the contract"
I know the bank issue is definitely Delilah's handwork "don't worry, we'll figure something out"
Her eyes filled with tears "what exactly are we going to think of? This is a dead end"
Wait till you hear this Juliana "what if I give you the loan?"
She blinked at me "I know your family is wealthy, but I don't think you have such money lying in your personal account"
"I'll give it to you from the company's account"
"How are you going to do that without your family knowing?"
I held her palm and squeezed it "let me worry about that okay? I promise to have the money ready for you by next week"
She cleaned her tears "why are you doing this Lucas? Why are you helping me?"
Staring at her deep in the eyes, I gave an answer to her question "because I don't like seeing you in distress Juliana. Because you should be worshipped Juliana and maybe because I want to be the one who brings a smile to your lips."
She pointed towers her prodded belly "am pregnant Lucas, are you sure you still want to be that man?" She showed me her fingers "am also engaged"
"You are engaged not married, engagements can be broken. As for the pregnancy, we will take it one at a time, okay?"
She bit her lips nervously "but I__"
"Just eat your food Juliana"
Lunch went unexpectedly well even though the client I was supposed to meet stood me up. I walked into my office to see Del seated on one of the chairs in my office.
"You sure did take your time while having your lunch"
I dropped my laptop on my desk before turning to face her fully. "I was supposed to meet with a client for lunch Del it's not as if I was having fun"
She stood up and crossed her arm "so you mean you've been having lunch with that client?"
"Yes, what's with the questions?"
She ignored my question "what's the name of the client Lucas?"
Okay... Now she's getting me pissed off "if you are not going to tell me the reason for all these questions Del, you can leave"
She kept quiet and stared at me "what happened to us Lucas? We used to tell each other everything and now, we do nothing but fight and lie"
"How about we start from you Del? Why are you hiding your result from your visit to the doctor?"
"Because there is nothing to hide Lucas, I was diagnosed with margarine nothing much"
I just looked at her with so much anger while she lied through her teeth. "Unlike you Del, am hiding nothing from you"
She snorted "how about the fact that the same client you claimed you were having dinner with was at the office this afternoon but you were nowhere to be found so I had to attend to him"
Fuck!!! "So Mr. Wilson stood me up at the restaurant and came here instead? Why the hell didn't he call me?"
She glared at with so much anger "I don't know, you tell me? Tell me why you didn't pick his call or any of mine?"
I brought out my phone from my pocket and checked it. Five missed call from Del and two from Mr. Wilson. "I honestly didn't know when it rang"
She walked closer to me "am not angry over attending to Mr. Wilson, I am angry that you are lying to me. I don't know what you are hiding from me, but I want you to know that anytime you feel like talking, am always here"
She stood on her tip toes and pecked me on the cheek before leaving my office.
I sat down and began to think about how am going to get a loan from the company without dad or Del finding out. With her recent suspecting, it's going to be pretty difficult if not close to impossible.
