For the love of Wings?

Kana’s POV I was so happy that dad and I both caught a fish each! I am just loving this trip. I’m glad I get to spend some quality time with my parents before I leave for school. Dad was trying to teach me how to clean our fish and even though I felt like throwing up, I decided to man up and do it. Mom finished cooking breakfast and we ate while playing a few games of cards. Card playing is a very serious thing in our family to the point that the loser has to do chores. Dad got stuck with dishes, I got stuck with the table while mom beat both of us and chillaxed under the sun sunbathing.  It was a fair win I don’t mind. Later on during the day dad wanted us to go hiking to see the sun set on the top of the trail where our hike would finish. After relaxing and taking in nature and the lake around us, we prepped dinner so that when we came back all we had to do is heat our food up from our hike and then set off for our hike.  On the map dad got from the guy at check in it shows a waterfall and some tadpole streams on our way up to the waterfall so we decided to go there. The trek wasn’t so bad. A little narrow but nothing to hectic. The best thing about this hike was the bugs. There was barely any bugs as I thought I would see. As we hike up to the trail mom finds the tadpole pond so we went towards her. Such a beautiful stream to see. I took so many pictures of all the tadpoles and frogs.  There was about 6 smaller areas in the pond that separated each mini pond within the tadpoles. After taking more photos with mom and dad we decided to go to the waterfall so that we can have time to hike back down to the cliff to see the sunset. We approached a huge waterfall. Another beautiful site to see. This waterfall was greater in width then height, to the point that I asked dad if I could jump off and he said yes.   I ran up the side of the waterfall and looked down. Mom and dad were watching on the left of me and I think I found a vine where I can swing from. Dad gave me a, “you better not get hurt or mom will kill me look”, and I just smirked and jumped on the vine out to the waterfall. It was an adrenaline rush! My heart was jumping so fast I didn’t realize I was holding my breath. Surprisingly, the water was not as cold and I swam back out to my parents.  “The fall was pretty deep but I didn’t feel anything when I jumped in,'' I said while swimming to my parents.  “It should be pretty deep since a waterfall is there. Waterfalls usually push the gravel further done and make the bottom floor of a waterfall smooth.” mom said while coming to dry my hair with her towel.  “I loved it and I found a vine to jump off of.” while I sat letting mom dry my hair.  “Yeah we all saw that, Kana,'' yelled dad.  My parents can be such tough asses but I swear they freak out to much on things with me.  “Let’s do some exploring for a little bit and then we can head out so that we can make the sunset before we go back to camp” as dad walks to the edge of the waterfall.  Mom follows and reaches for his hand. They just sit there watching the waterfall. I love them so much. I’m so thankful for them and I hope one day I can be and make them proud. My parents are everything to me. After spending a few hours here dad motions to us that it’s time to go. I see mom collecting a few herbs right under the waterfall as she rushes to dad with his open hands to hold whatever she got. I catch up to them and we pack everything up and walk back towards camp. The walk back is a bit steep since we are going towards a cliff to watch the sunset.  I almost fell and dad had to jump over mom to catch me. That scared me shitlist. To make things even more weird for me I felt an ache in my back. Like something was about to rip through my skin and bones. Dad noticed the fear in my eyes and laid me on the ground while mom started taking things out of her bag. I felt like something was about to rip through my back. I started whimpering and looked at my parents asking why is this happening to me. They both looked at me caringly and mom started to rub some herbs on my back. Dad knelt down and mom held my head and raised me up. It hurt so bad and I looked at them and asked what’s going on.  “Baby girl, if I’m correct it looks like your wings have matured and are starting to peek through your back. It looks like this scare of falling peaked your wings to come out” dad stared at me wanting me to know that I’m alright.  All I could think about is WINGS??????  “Wait what wings? Why and wait and what and how come and when and how? It hurts so bad. Should it hurt this much? Why is it hurting this much? When will it stop? How come I didn’t know?” I cried out loudly.  “Your power and strength may have just started. Usually your wings are already discovered when you’re born but maybe you parents hid them till now. You are a growing girl now and it’s time you know who you are and where you come from. That is why mom and I have decided to let you go out of country to learn who you are, secretly. So that you can find the answers to questions we can not answer” says dad lovingly.  “This is a path only you can walk, not by yourself but something you must start on your own” says mom.  As I slowly calm my heart down I automatically lean towards mom and squeeze on her shoulders with both hands. I close my eyes and feel a light presence hovering over my head. Shading the sunset from my eyes. I turn up and see light grey wings hovering over mom and I. I see dad step back and look with amazement as mom just sits next to me with tears in her eyes. I turn around and my wings follow in place with me. I turn my neck and my top part of my wing turns with me. I look to the right and only my right wing glides next to my side of my body like a blanket covering and hovering me for protection.  This is going to be fun.  As I look up to dad, I see that my wings are almost as tall as him. They’re huge. I feel like they give off a shiny grey sparkle of a color. I feel a breeze come through and my wings automatically extend and I can see it reaching almost more than half the size of my body and covering dad too. We all look at each other in shock. Did I really have all of this stuck in my back? This is just crazy. Dad lifts me and mom and we start walking. My wings extend more and dad looks at it and you can tell dad is thinking about how to get rid of them.  “Darling, we may need to hide those since we need everyone to think you’re a witch. We are not ready for the world to know you are half demon and half angel. But I will say that these are the most gorgeous angelic wings I have ever seen” my mom smiles.  “Wait! You’ve seen wings before?” I asked quickly.  Mom and dad looked at each other and they both shake their heads.  “Yes we have. Your parents.” says mom calmly.   “Your dad has black wings and your mom has white wings” dad says while fidgeting with a rock on his shoe.  My parents? I kinda forgot about them and who they were.  “Let’s finish watching this sunset and then we will head back to camp. Before we go back, are you able to concentrate on putting your wings away, Kana?” dad asks.  “I can try” I say. I concentrate and think of ways to put my wings back and don’t know what to try. So I thought of the obvious and in my mind I said, “away wings” and they went back instantly.  Dad looked at me proud knowing I can control something like this very fast. I was very surprised it did too.  “I know you have a lot of questions right now love, but let's hike back to camp, eat and then sleep this off and we can talk about this tomorrow okay?” my mom is such a loving person. She says that with ease and I know she is exhausted since we did so much today. “Okay mom” as I hug her and we watch the sunset as a family together.
