Yapper

After we finish eating Jack takes our bowls to the kitchen. He comes back out with two beers and offers one to me which I gladly accept. A little alcohol might help cut some of the tension in this room. “I honestly wouldn’t have taken you for a beer drinker” he says raising his eyebrows “I’m more of a White Claw kind of girl but I don’t mind a beer.” I only drink white claws because they don’t have a lot of sugar in them, they are honestly disgusting “How long have you lived here?” I ask trying to find anything to talk about “Only a couple years” “Do you like it here?” I make another attempt at conversation “If I didn’t I wouldn’t be here” I start shaking my leg to help my nerves because it’s pretty obvious he’s not interested in talking to me so why can’t I just shut up?! “I’m sorry if I seem rude, I’m not really used to company” That honestly surprises me. I mean a man like him could have a different girl every night of the week. “Really? I figured a guy that looks like you would have a lot of company” My eyes go wide immediately regretting say that because I put so much emphasis on ‘a lot’ “What does that mean exactly?” He raises his eyebrow and I have no doubt he notices how red my face is right now “Well, I just.. I just mean, you know, your umm.. easy on the eyes” I shift in my seat taking a long swig of my beer “Thanks” he chuckles Relief washes over me but my cheeks are burning red. I drain the rest of my beer, I don’t know why I thought that would be a good idea because I talk even more with alcohol in my system. “I got really drunk last night, that’s why I was running late and got stuck in the snow because I over slept but I’m 21, isn’t getting drunk with my friends what I’m supposed to be doing?” I’ve barely got to enjoy my 20’s because of Alex “I guess so” he shrugs “I definitely didn’t think I would be drinking with a stranger in his cabin tonight. Jesus, I am one of those girls that gets murdered in the horror movies.” I put my hand on my face “Believe me, if someone took you to murder you they would bring you back” “That’s what my mom used to always tell me” She used to always tell me ‘if someone kidnapped they would bring you back because you’d drive them crazy’ “Do you want another beer?” He asks standing from the couch “If your fine with hearing me yap then yes I will take another” I smile at him giving him my empty bottle I think I see him roll his eyes again but when he comes back from the kitchen he has two beers. I must not be annoying him that much, or he’s just being a good host. He holds his hand out offering me the beer and when I take it my hand rubs across his. He pull back like I’ve just shocked him. He sits down on the other end of the couch both of us ignoring the encounter we just had. Do I look that repulsive right now? “I honestly can’t believe you don’t have TV” I sit back in the couch staring at the perfect spot above the fire place for a big flat screen. “TV rots your brain” He’s probably right but I’d rather rot my brain watching something entertaining rather than staring at a wall “So does boredom” I retort and I see him smile “You kids and your electronics” he sound like a grandpa but he doesn’t even look he’s older than 30 “Us kids? How old are you exactly?” I scoff “32” Ok, I was off by two years “Wow. You are not that much older than me, definitely not old enough to call me a kid and definitely not old enough to not have a TV. I mean look at that perfect spot above the fire place begging for a flat screen” He drops his head on the back of the couch letting out a genuine laugh. “It’s starting to get late, you can take the bed and I’ll take the couch” he points to what I’m assuming is his room “No you’ve already helped me so much the least I can do is take the couch I really don’t mind” I would feel terrible for making him sleep on the couch, not that it’s uncomfortable or anything but still. “Suite yourself” he shrugs raising his large frame from the couch I c**k my head to the side staring at his very nice backside as he disappears into the dark room. I was worried about him being a murderer and here I am being a creep. When he comes back out he has a blanket, pillow, and book. “Hopefully this will keep you entertained” he hands me the items. A large smile breaks out on my face at his thoughtfulness. I make myself comfortable on the couch. It’s actually really nice with the fire going. The book he gave me is an Edgar Allan Poe book with all of his stories in it. He had paid attention to the fact I love horror, that was sweet of him I think to myself and it brings another smile to my face.
